Real Time Traffic Information by using
Floating Car Data.
More than 500,000 vehicles in Italy are equipped with GPS tracking systems from Meta System. Mostly used for insurance telematics applications, stolen vehicle recovery, or eCall, they send anonymous geographic positions to the server of Octo Telematics on a regular basis. This data is then analyzed by our IT-system to calculate the current traffic situation in the whole country.
Octo Telematics has the largest fleet of cars providing floating car data worldwide.
Because of the very complex algorithms and the significant number of vehicles, no stationary sensors are necessary. All information is collected dynamically through participation with the vehicle owners and with respect to the data protection act.
